内容説明

Herman Schell (1850-1906) and Ernst Troeltsch (1865-1923) represented progressive positions within their own Roman Catholic and Lutheran traditions. Their attempts at providing a theological understanding of Christianity within the context of turn-of-the-century apologetics are explored, contrasted and compared. Finally, conclusions are drawn as an ecumenical contribution to appropriating the history of Christian thought on the non-Christian religions of the world.

目次

Contents: Troeltsch's analysis of the Absoluteness of Christianity and the apologetic needs of the age - Schell's conception of apologetics and his use of an evolutionary model for development of religion - Converging and diverging Lutheran/Roman Catholic perspectives on the world religions.
