Description
Violence against spouses, children, and other family members is a serious - and apparently growing - national problem. Despite the serious of family violence, research on the magnitude and causes of this tragedy and on effective intervention leaves much to be desired. The contributors to this volume offer specific ways to improve this research. They recommend that definition and terminology be standardized, that researchers understand they will never find a single cause for assaultive behaviour a discover a "cure" that administrative weaknesses be found and corrected in time to save children's lives, and that costly demonstration projects be curtailed before they do more harm than good.
