内容説明

The field of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy continues to be a dynamic one with the emergence of new instrumental advances and novel applications. Since the number of regulated chemical substances in the environment continues to escalate, the analytical environmental chemist must be capable of identifying and quantifying a large number of substances. To meet this demand, the technique of gas chromatography coupled to FT-IR spectrometric detection offers a viable, and potentially routine, analytical method. Consequently, a topical volume on some applications of FT-IR spectroscopy was compiled which contains articles that should be of interest to both applied and basic researchers. The focus of Chapter 1 is on the applications of `stand-alone' GC/FT-IR to problems of environmental concern. Moreover, it covers several features of the GC/IR experiment itself, namely the interfaces used to link the GC with FT-IR spectrometer. Photoacoustic FT-IR spectroscopy is addressed in the following two chapters. Data treatment is dealt with in Chapter 2 while recent developments in surface studies using FT-IR spectroscopy are covered in Chapter 3. Particular attention is given to those new surface techniques which have the potential to study surfaces at various depths. In Chapter 4, FT-IR spectroscopy of matrix isolated species is reviewed. Chapter 5 is dedicated to a review of the rotational, vibrational and rovibrational spectra and the derived molecular properties of the group IV hydrides MH 4 , M = Si, Ge, Sn, their monohalo derivatives H 3 MX, X = F, Cl, Br and I, and the respective deuterated varieties. In the final chapter of this volume, low frequency FT-IR spectroscopy of gases with specific applications to torsional vibrations and ring inversion is discussed. Theoretical considerations are also presented which include the use of ab initio calculations to illustrate the advantages of a combined theoretical experimental approach to some of the types of studies described.
