The aim of "International Bond Markets" is to provide students and practitioners with a short and lucid introduction to the world's most important markets in government securities. Covering the bond markets of the USA, Japan, France, Italy, Australia and the UK, individual chapters describe how markets in public sector debt have developed and how they operate in their respective countries. In addition, monetary policies and the monetary institutions which carry them out are outlined for each of the markets, highlighting the role of government securities in international finance. Financiers will be able to learn what "spitting on the flag" might mean to a UK gilt dealer, or how to conduct a swap between Japanese and Italian bonds, while students of monetary policy will discover vital details of monetary institutions and their behaviour. The countries covered in "International Bond Markets" were chosen to include both the world's largest capital exporter (Japan) as well as the countries with chronic budget deficits (Italy and the USA). They provide a balanced spread of large and small, open and closed economies, encompassing a broad spectrum of the many forms of government borrowing.
This book should be of interest to lecturers, students and practitioners of finance, banking and economics.
