内容説明
This book looks at the development of the concept of the chemical nature of solutions, showing quantitatively the role of solvents as chemical reagents. A theory of solvation processes is given, the main impetus of which arises from the division and quantitative definition of the energetic and structural (entropic) contributions to thermodynamic functions of solvation, through to the establishment of their inter-relationship with various types of intermolecular interaction. The approach enables the author to relate macroscopic solvation effects to the solvent structure and thus to create the basis for his structural-thermodynamic theory of solutions. The aims to fill a gap in the literature in its presentation of the solvent's role as a chemical reagent on a quantitative basis, and its numerous and comprehensive tabulations of thermodynamic data for a very large number of metal ions and cations. It is designed to be of interest to a wide range of chemists and to biologists and physicists interested in the structure and dynamics of aqueous electrolyte solutions.
