内容説明
This is a collection of essays, first published in "Contemporary Review", which contain a fierce counter-attack. Mill is castigated for his alleged misunderstandings of Hamilton, for his ignorance of Kant and for his "contempt" for metaphysics itself. Mansel defends, against Mill, the intelligibility of arguing for an unknown God and even of saying that "God is good", albeit in some non-standard and perhaps analogical sense of the term. Issues at stake between Mill on the one side and Hamilton and Mansel on the other, include the status of metaphysics itself, the relation of Faith to Reason and the freedom of the Will.
