The same approach is taken to the study of nerve cells whether you come from the medical sciences, biology, or even psychology. This textbook aims to avoid the subject-oriented approach taken in so many other books. How are nervous systems organized?. How do they function?. From the single neuron, to the interacations between two neurons, to small groups of neurons and finally to the particular functional attributes of nervous systems - you find general principles underlying the study of neuroscience. The author developed the text especially for undergraduate or postgraduate students based on 15 years of teaching experience. Since neuroscience is an experimental science, the importance of being able to interpret experimental observations is stressed. Many of the illustrations are taken from the original literature. The references to papers both recent and classical are an introduction to the literature and aims to act as an encouragement to investigate nerve cells further.
