Description and Table of Contents
Description
This book provides a comprehensive and authoritative survey of books and articles on historical topics published in a single calendar year, and is available before the end of the following year. It is divided into sections, to cover periods of British and Irish history from Roman Britain to the late 20th century, and is arranged alphabetically. Over two hundred journals are searched annually, and the aim of the editors is to list all relevant books and articles published in the UK. Each section is edited by a specialist in that field and the whole is edited by Barbara English and J.J.N.Palmer for the Royal Historical Society. This is the first volume to be published by Oxford University Press. A number of improvements and additions have been made. The book's contents are now indexed by author, by place, by personal name, and by subject. The subject keywords enable scholars to trace publications in which they are interested, beyond the information conveyed in the titles. A new section, on imperial and colonial history, has been added.
