Based on the fourth symposium on liver and aging, this book has two main topics: the detoxifying systems in the liver, and the role of liver proteins in aging processes. All the chapters in this volume have significant implications as well as future potential for understanding the fundamental mechanisms of cellular aging and for promoting the well-being of the elderly. Collaboration between different researchers and laboratories is urgently needed to enhance the progress of research in this field. This book testifies to collaborative efforts by several different laboratories, and points the way to further development of additional collaborative research projects in this most challenging field.
