Hendrik Tillema (1870-1952) was a well-known Dutch writer and traveller who devoted much of his distinguished career as a hygienist to the study of the then Netherlands East Indies, Borneo in particular. Professor Victor King of the University of Hull's Centre for South-East Asian Studies has produced this English edition of Tillema's work, which is illustrated with over 250 photographs taken by the author. This edition includes a lengthy introduction to the author and his work, a glossary, and bibliographies.
