Description
The current Louisiana State Constitution, drafted in 1974, is the result of successive amendments and revisions to ten previous constitutions, and is among the most lengthy and detailed of all state constitutions. Lee Hargrave's reference guide begins with a brief history of the constitution from its 1812 origins when French and Spanish elitist interests dictated most provisions, through the many changes necessitated by an influx of richly diverse immigrants. The current constitution is the primary focus of the book and is then presented in its entirety.
The accompanying historical material and supplementary comments on the 1974 constitution, as well as the bibliography, are purposely abbreviated in order to place the major emphasis on the document itself. A complete table of cases with citations and a full subject index provide further information. This volume is a valuable addition to the series on state constitutions issued by Greenwood Press.
