Description
The countdown to European integration has been marked by extensive and often acrimonious debates. "After l992 - The United States of Europe" makes a contribution to those debates. Challenging Margaret Thatcher's championship of unfettered national sovereignty, Ernest Wistrich argues that the changes of l992 will precipitate the transformation of the European Community into a full political and economic union, organized according to federal principles. Now available for the first time in paperback, this book examines the monetary, economic, social and cultural dimensions of the process. The staggering changes in East Central Europe have obviously impacted on the changes within the EC. Updated to take account of the implications of these changes and of German re-unificationn, the book also discusses the continuing evolution of the European Monetary System, and other recent developments on the road to a united Europe. This book should be of interest to students of politics and European studies.
