Focusing on the main manoeuvres that took place in Scotland and England between the Glorious Revolution of 1688 and the Battle of Culloden in 1746, the authors provide a detailed chronological narrative of places, people and battles. Many of the sites associated with the Jacobites have not changed greatly in the last two centuries, and a visit to the places concerned can bring the period and its people vividly to life. As the authors follow the trail of the Jacobites, they describe, with the help of a variety of photographs and many specially drawn maps, what remains to be seen today, from caves to castles, mansions to military roads, and towns to tombstones.
