Description
An examination of the historical and social climate that fostered the development of Greek style in American architecture between 1770 and 1840. It includes colour photographs of hundreds of buildings, from banks and churches to offices and homes. The text considers the political economy of the Greek Revival, the age of Jackson and Biddle, the notion of reviving Greece and the domestic psychology of the Greek Revival. The appendices list terminology, and also give dates, architect and client for all the buildings included in this book.
