Description
Frederic Leighton was one of the greatest British painters of the Victorian artistic Renaissance, and this book is an appreciation of his achievement in 19th-century art. It covers his life and work, from his European upbringing and training to his work as President of the Royal Academy. Leighton created grand and elaborate figurative paintings, covering a range of mythological, historical and literary subjects. He combined an academic style with a sensual portrayal of vigour, movement, colour and light. Christopher Newall is the author of "Society Portraits" and "Victorian Watercolours".
