It includes anecdotes and inside stories of his dealings with Keynes, Friedman, Acheson, William Dexter White and many others, and accounts of the Bretton Woods Conference, including its background, the preparations for it, and its aftermath. Bernstein's story is a document for monetary historians as well as for students of the discipline of economics in the 20th century.
