Description
This volume has been designed as a tribute to the career of Professor Tobias and contains a compilation of work from leading authorities in diverse areas of anthropological research. The book presents a collection of essays which explore the basic question underlying all anthropological studies: what does it mean to be human? From cultural, evolutionary and biological perspectives, the authors provide insights into this complex question. Divided into four major sections, the text discusses subjects ranging from sociocultural concerns of past and present societies to the auxology and pathology of the human frame. The section on palaeoanthropology contains previously unpublished material on the fossil site of the first-discovered Australopithecine and the section on human biology presents data on the brain, skull and growth patterns.
