Description
Poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and glaring socio-economic inequalities are among the issues faced by planners and policy-makers in India, but recent experiments with economic policy and development strategies provide no evidence that the major challenges facing the country will be successfully tackled. It is this concern which motivates the distinguished contributors to this major volume, which provides a critical overview of the direction in which India is moving and an integrated assessment of the country's prospects.
