An account of research into Soviet capabilities in the manufacture of the advanced technology equipment required to design and produce machinery and consumer goods to contemporary international market demands. Reference is also made to equipment-manufacturing capabilities in some of those Central and East-European countries with which the Soviet Union has had long-term trading relations, through the framework of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. The book is written for three main groups of readers. Government officials engaged in the development and implementation of export policies and regulations; business executives engaged in export marketing to the USSR and Eastern Europe who need to relate their marketing plans to those countries' technological capabilities and the relevant Western export control regulations; and academic researchers and students seeking to understand more clearly the technological capabilities and potential of the Soviet Union and Central and eastern Europe, and the Western trade policies related therto.
