内容説明
Building upon the second edition, this third edition represents an expansion of prior editions of this book. Information concerning the structure and operation of several popular compression algorithms that reached the market since the publication of the second edition of this book has been added. New compression techniques examined in this book include the Microcom Networking Protocol (MNP) Class 5 data compression, MNP Class 7 Enhanced Data Compression, and the CCITT V.42bis compression method based upon the Lempei-Ziv technique. In addition, numerous methods to enhance the efficiency of both character oriented and statistical compression techniques based upon the author's experience over the past three years are now shared with readers. Concerning character oriented compression, a new chapter has been added which discusses three methods readers can use to obtain the special compression indicating character which is the key to implementing this type of compression. Since the key to the successful implementation of character oriented compression techniques is the selection of an appropriate compression indicating character, Chapter 2 is focused upon this topic.
Due to the relationship between compression indicating characters and data codes, Chapter 2 first reviews four popular data codes and then examines three methods readers can use to obtain compression indicating characters.
