Many obstetric ultrasound texts have either a predominately obstetric or radiologic slant because the authors tend to represent one discipline. Although the co-editors, a radiologist and obstetrician, have attempted to attain an even mix in the authorship, it will become apparent to the reader that there is now very little difference between radiologists and obstetricians in their approach taken to the diagnosis of fetal anomalies. The purpose of this volume of the "Clinics" is to provide the newest information on diagnosis and therapy of fetal anomalies. It is divided by organ system, as well as general chapters such as Syndromes, Chromosomal Abnormalities, Fetal Intervention and Normal Anatomy. It has been designed for the experienced sonographer or sonologist who is confronted with obstetric patients having developmentally abnormal fetuses. The chapters address prenatal diagnosis according to fetal body system and are written by authors who were chosen because of their experience and expertise in their assigned topics.
The concepts and the data incorporated in this text represent the most up-to-date information in the literature because the authors are in the forefront of current investigation and the "turn around" time for these volumes is remarkably short. Even though the editors tailor-made this book for the busy ultrasound practitioner, it is hoped that medical students, residents, and sonographers-in-training will find this an invaluable reference resource.
