Description
Emerging Electromagnetic Medicine presents the latest research findings in the field of electromagnetic radiation. The book discusses the research of current active researchers in terms of synthesizing and sharing their ideas on the use of electromagnetic fields in diagnostic and therapeutic medicine, now and in the future, including the benefits and risks involved. The book consists of three parts prefaced by a brief historic perspective. Section I describes the theoretical concerns and actual mechanisms involved; Section II covers current preclinical studies, performed in vivo and in vitro, concerning the biological action of the electromagnetic radiation; and Section III reports on actual clinical applications of electromagnetic therapy and also the current machinery used to do so.
Table of Contents
- Electromagnetic Energy: A Historical Therapeutic Perspective
- Its Future.- Section I - Theory and Mechanisms.- The Dielectric Properties of Cells and Tissues: What Can They Tell Us About the Mechanisms of Field/Cell Interactions?.- Effects of Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields on Membrane Transport.- Cellular Physiology and Electromagnetic Fields: Cellular Communication, Human Communication.- Low Frequency Electromagnetic Energy: Its Emergence as a Medical Treatment.- Electroporation: A New Phenomenon to Consider in Medical Technology.- Section II - Preclinical Studies (In Vivo, In Vitro).- Metabolic Spectroscopy for Monitoring Electromagnetic Medical Techniques.- Transcatheter Microwave Technology for Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases.- RF Energy for Warming Divers' Hands and Feet.- EMR and the Brain: A Brief Literature Review.- Developments for Stimulation and Analysis of Nerve Regeneration.- Perspectives in Stimulation of Human Nervous System with the Magnetic Coil.- Section III - Clinical Applications.- Recent Technical Developments in Cancer Hyperthermia.- Current and Emerging Medical Applications of Microwave and Radio Frequency Energy in the Treatment of Cancer.- Electromagnetic Field Focusing (EFF) Probe: Applications in Aneurysm Treatment, Angioplasty, and Brain Tumor Resection.- Biological Effects of Pulsed High Peak Power: Electromagnetic Energy Using Diapulse (R).- Electrotherapy Applied to Irradiated Head and Neck Cancer Patients.- Safety Issues in Electromagnetic Medicine.
