This book covers both developed commercial battery systems and those still under development but nearing commercialization. Each system is described by an author with first-hand knowledge of that battery type. Opening with an historical account of battery development and commercialization, the book also includes sections on the science of power sources and the techniques used in battery research and development. Batteries offer a cleaner energy source than oil, and one that, especially where transportation is concerned, is often more environmentally acceptable. Research and development in battery technology is rapidly increasing, and, with the number of possible battery systems being so wide, it is always necessary to make choices to suit the applications required. This book aims to answer this need and should be welcomed by battery users and developers.
