Description and Table of Contents

Description

The great emphasis at the moment on safeguarding the environment from pollution, means that engineers and waste managers must find acceptable solutions to the problem of the safe disposal of industrial, municipal and agricultural wastes. The possibility of recycling waste by using landfill gas for power generation or refuse-derived fuel for heating, is also a consideration. This volume records the proceedings of the third European conference on this subject which was held in Dusseldorf in April 1991.

Table of Contents

  • The refuse balance of the city of Dusseldorf
  • an up-to-date waste incineration concept for optimal waste destruction
  • future-oriented firing concept for refuse incineration plants as executed at the Ludwigshafen plant
  • incineration of liquid and gaseous waste as part of production
  • twenty-five years of electricity and district heat co-generation from thermal waste processing
  • the United Kingdom's first privately operated clinical waste incinerator
  • the destruction of hazardous wastes in a mobile incinerator
  • sludge volume reduction from metal waste
  • a novel sludge dewatering process using woven tubular fabric
  • present and future political expectations on waste prevention
  • the Byker refuse derived fuel plant
  • the manufacture of refuse derived fuel and plant modifications needed to make a competitive product
  • landfill gas extraction from buried refuse - design considerations
  • the commercial use of landfill gas in the United Kingdom
  • power generation from landfill gas
  • landfill gas - its use as a fuel for process firing and power generation
  • industrial and commercial wastes as fuel - a review of United Kingdom experience
  • recycling for profit
  • flue gas cleaning - a must for ensuring public acceptance of refuse incineration plants
  • environmental control and energy recovery of landfill gas - a conflict of interests? energy efficient control of volatile organic compounds.
