Published from 1946-83 by the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, the YIVO Annual was at the forefront of scholarly research in the areas of East European Jewish culture, Yiddish literature, folklore, and music, Jewish labor history, American Jewish history, and modern European Jewish history in general. East European Jews in Two Worlds: Studies from the "YIVO Annual" includes articles by some of the most prominent figures in contemporary Jewish scholarship. The Annual resumes publication in 1990 in a cooperative venture between Northwestern University Press and the YIVO Institute. This collection from its earlier issues provides a variety of perspectives-historical, sociological, and literary-on modern Jewish life.
