内容説明

This study is an attempt to lay a foundation for future geological studies of mountain-building processes in the high mountain ranges of central Asia. Whereas the emphasis of previous work has been one of mapping and description, this volume focuses on solving problems related to specific geologic processes, and uses an interpretative approach based on multi-disciplinary data. The map at the end of the text is the result of five field seasons mapping in the area, combined with compilations of previously published and unpublished mapping. Due to the restriction of air photographic coverage, most of the mapping was created using 1:250,000 maps or enlarged LANDSAT photographs. The author intends the text largely as a review of present knowledge of the geology and tectonics of the Karakoram Range. Following an introduction which describes the palaeography of the region, the text describes the geology, evolution, present glaciation, geomorphology, climatic controls and neotectonics of the area.
