Description and Table of Contents

Description

This four-volume compendium encapsulates the proceedings of a symposium on water desalination and its re-use. Each volume contains a number of papers taken in sequence from the four-day programme, beginning with the topics of economics and membrane processes and ending with electrodialysis and corrosion. In the first volume, the economics of water desalination and the provision of resources in a number of countries worldwide is addressed, along with the intricacies of membrane distillation, evaporative cascades and a case history - "Phenolic Off-flavours in Food Processing Arising from the Use of Town Water". In the second volume, seawater reverse osmosis and treatment plants in countries from around the world are examined; solar powered absorption, solar desalting and solar still performance are described; and pretreatment such as the inhibition of scale formation from natural salt waters is assessed. The third volume addresses, among other topics, various types of fouling and scaling, and the fourth volume covers evaporative operations, the comparison of different channel constructions and their efficiency in membrane cells, and materials selection for the high pressure section of seawater reverse osmosis plants. The symposium was organized by the Institution of Chemical Engineers on behalf of the European Federation of Chemical Engineers Working Parties on Desalination and Water Technology and Membrane Science.
