Description

The approaching creation of the Single European Market in 1992 has heightened awareness of the growing integration of the European Community, which has major implications for social problems and social services. There is likely to be increased movement of social service users, social workers and of practice ideas. This book outlines the institutions of the European Community and their impact on social policy and social work. An analysis is made of the similarities and differences in approaches to public welfare, social service organization and social work education within the social and political contexts of the member states of the EC. Finally, attention is given to a number of social work issues to examine how these are tackled within the EC. Such topics include community development, juvenile justice, child abuse, family policy and services for elderly people.
