Solid state astrophysics is concerned with solid bodies in space. The book presents contributions from chemists, physicists and astronomers, emphasising the interdisciplinary nature of space research. Material processing in space and simulation in the laboratory are examined here, as well as the properties of grains, comets, meteorites, planets and satellites, in connection with past and future space missions. The effects of irradiation by UV and ions are presented in detail.
