内容説明
This volume is a detailed atlas of the embryonic development of the neocortex, one of the most elaborate and important structures in the mammalian brain. The authors describe their studies using the rat neocortex as a model system to provide a complete description of neocortical development in mammals. They examine, at daily intervals, the development of the rat neocortex from its earliest emergence until the day of birth. Three hundred colour and black-and-white illustrations, including computer-generated three-dimensional images, depict changes in the morphological and cellular development of the neocortex.
目次
- Part 1 Embryonic development of the neocortex: the germinal matrix of the developing rat neocortex
- the development of the primordial plexiform layer and its subsequent partitioning into layer I and the subplate (layer VII)
- development of the cortical plate
- stratification in the cortical transitional field
- quantitative studies of the nuclear area and orientation in the developing neocortex
- cell migration in the developing neocortex
- experimental studies of neocortical development using x-Irradiation. Part 2 Intrinsic neurogenetic gradients in specific neocortical areas: development of the visual areas
- development of the auditory areas
- development of the somatosensory areas
- development of the motor areas
- development of the limbic cortical areas. Part 3 Theoretical issues, summary and conclusions: theoretical issues. Appendices: Histological procedures for normative embryonic studies/tritiated thymidine autoradiographic methods
- statistical procedures
- quantitative procedures for three-dimensional computer reconstructions
- quantitative procedures for determining cell packing density, cell size and cell orientation
- using x-Irradiation to determine the positions of vulnerable cell populations.
