This volume presents clinical and basic science information on the various forms of hereditary and acquired rickets and osteomalacia that are encountered in current medical practice. An international group of experts examines the pathophysiology and clinical features of dietary calcium deficiency rickets, vitamin D deficiency rickets, vitamin D pseudodeficiency, and heritable hypophosphatemic rickets, and offers authoritative guidelines on prevention, differential diagnosis and treatment. Close attention is given to the public health problem of vitamin D deficiency rickets in developing countries, as well as to advances in the diagnosis and management of genetically determined vitamin-resistant forms of rickets.
