This edition provides information on the recent legislative changes that have had an impact on the administration of pensions, including the Social Security Act 1990, the European Court's ruling in Barber versus Guardian Royal Exchange, the Data Protection Act 1984 and the Financial Services Act 1986 and 1989. Some completely new chapters have been added dealing with accounting for pension costs, sex discrimination and unapproved pension schemes. The amount of legislation affecting pension schemes in recent years has been almost overwhelming. One of the effects has been to encourage employers, or force them, into considering money purchase schemes as a replacement for final salary pension schemes. Thus, in addition to the new chapters on money purchase schemes and hybrid pension schemes, the new importance of money purchase schemes is reflected in the inclusion of much new material in the chapters which refer to and discuss this alternative form of occupational pension scheme.
