Description and Table of Contents
Description
This document, the second in the "Caring for Quality" series, starts from the premise that adults with physical or sensory disabilities in residential homes should be able to maximize control over their own lives. It offers inspectors, managers and staff broad guidance on fundamental aspects of good practice. Three dimensions of quality assessment are highlighted: quality of life, quality of care and quality of management. The report stresses that residents should be allowed independence and privacy, the same rights as other citizens and the chance to choose the kind of life they want to lead to achieve their personal aspirations. Their accommodation should be comfortable and safe, and meals should be of a satisfactory standard. To further help users of this document, supporting checklists and suggested issues to bear in mind when evaluationg services are given.
