内容説明
Spain's civil war (1936-1939) was one of the bloodiest internecine conflicts of the modern era. Thousands of civilians and soldiers died. The outcome was a repressive and brutal military dictatorship which lasted in Spain for almost 40 years. Beginning with an account of the historical antecedents to the war, Sheelagh Ellwood traces the history of the Second Republic, which culminated in the electoral victory of the Popular Front in 1936. The author charts and analyzes the dramatic chain of events of the civil war, from the army uprising in Morocco in July 1936, to the Nationalist advances in southern and north-western Spain and Catalonia and Madrid's protracted resistance to, and final defeat by Franco's forces in the Spring of 1939.
