内容説明

This famous (and long out-of-print) translation in Carlyle's German Romance collection founded the English reputation of Ludwig Tieck and E.T.A. Hoffmann. Some of their best-known works are included: "The Fair-Haired Eckbert," "The Trusty Eckart," "The Goblet," "The Elves," and "The Runenberg," by Tieck; the famous "Golden Pot" by Hoffmann. Professor Timm's introduction delves into Carlyle's interest in German Romanticism and its influence on English and American letters.
