内容説明
This collection of papers represents the lively exchange of ideas during the U.S. U.S.S.R. colloquium on library services to children held in Moscow. Topics of the papers presented by the U.S. delegates include - ""Strengthening Children's Services from the National Association - ALSC goals and objectives"" by Susan Roman. ""Children and information technology in the United States"" by Carla D.Hayden. ""Structure of library networks"" by Marilyn Berg Iarusso. ""Education of children's librarians"" by Barbara Froling Immroth, and ""Programs to promote reading and literacy"" by Mary R. Somerville. The Soviet participants' presentation of seven papers reflected their major concerns, which included an exploratory essay on how the structure of library services in the U.S.S.R. affects the reading habits of children and young adults and another essay examining current research on reading trends of young children and teenagers. Also featured are a forward by Robert Stueart, an epilogue by Marilyn Miller which adds meaning and depth to the exchange between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. delegates, and a photo essay covering the 1989 trip. The contributors negotiated to develop long-range goals for future meetings that provide a forum for exchange of ideas between the Soviet Union and the United States on issues of children's services.
