The latter half of the l980s proved to be one of the most remarkable periods in European and Soviet contemporary history, offering the military an opportunity to redesign concepts and reshape forces for the future. This book examines the developments taking place within Soviet military doctrine and the way in which the Soviet Union is likely to orchestrate its armed forces in the face of change and modernization. The author is a British Army officer. His interest in Soviet military affairs began as a result of a tour with the Defence Intelligence Staff at the UK Ministry of Defence.
