This text is concerned with the production of active carbons. It gives a description of their properties based on the characteristic features of the porous and chemical structures of the surface. Theoretical data which provides the means of quantifying the porous structure of active carbons with reference to different systems of adsorption and various experimental measuring techniques is also presented. The application of active carbons as adsorbents in solid/gas and solid/liquid systems is discussed - reference being made to the conservation of the environment, the food and pharmaceutical industry, medicine, electrochemistry, etc. Applying an up-to-date approach, the versatility of the book lies in its provision of the data needed for calculating the porous structure of active carbons using the most modern methods and concepts.
