Mary Ellen Mark is a photojournalist. Her subject is people, those lost on the unexplored fringes of life: the dying inside Mother Theresa's hospices, prostitutes in Bombay, autistic children, patients on a mental ward. Often she literally lives among her subjects in order to be granted access to their lives.
