Tokyo, wirh a population of 26.5 million in 1994, continues to be the largest urban agglomeration in the world and is projected to remain so until 2015. Whilst New York, ranking first in 1960, is anticipated to slip to 11th place in 2015. Estimates and projections of urban, rural and city populations for all countries of the world are updated every two years by the Population Division of the Department for Economic and Social Information and Policy Analysis of the United Nations Secretariat. This 1994 Revision provides the latest published data.
