Dioxygen activation is a rapidly developing field in which research is directed at (1) modelling of biological oxidations, (2) design and utilization of new catalysts for oxidative transformations of organic substrates, (3) application of O2 (and H2O2) as a cheap oxidant in the manufacture of fine and bulk chemicals.
