Description

While mainly concerned with corrosion behaviour of stainless steels and corrosion aspects of chlorination in sea water, this book alsi addresses a number of related topics. These include marine fouling and the performance of other materials, notably copper-based alloys. Grouped into three sections, the first covers new developments in stainless steels for resistance in seawater, providing analyses and sources of these materials.. Cast forms of stainless steels are discussed and consideration is given to the welding of stainless steels in relation to corrosion behaviour. Galvanic compatibility of high alloy stainless steels is also looked at. The second part contains a detailed account of marine fouling and the need for, and application of, chlorination treatments. The performance of copper-based alloys as corrosion-resistant materials in chlorinated waters is discussed, followed by an examination of the resistance of stainless steels in such media. The final section covers corrosion and chlorination in offshore seawater systems, covering the specific topics of condenser tubes and electrochlorination systems. Two desalination systems using high alloy stainless steels are examined. The book finishes with a look at the problems caused in feash water production when using this technology.
