Description

This paperback edition brings back into circulation an important source of St Anselm's words and thoughts, as preserved by his close companions and disciples. One of the most interesting things about Anselm is the deep impression that he made on those who heard him, whether in conversation, in monastic colloquies or in sermons. Many records of his spoken words have survived, mainly through the efforts of his secretaries, Eadmer and Alexander. Disciples sought drafts and fragments of his work, transcribing his writings before they were complete and rescuing his notes from the oblivion into which they would have fallen. Interest in even the smallest fragments continued after his death. This body of material, although incomplete, illuminates several aspects of this Archbishop of Canterbury's thought that are only lightly touched on in his published works.
