内容説明
A report of the excavations at Jawa, a fortified settlement lying on the eastern slopes of Jebel Druze in Eastern Jordan. Its two periods of occupation are covered - the first from the fourth millenium BC when the main fortifications and the water systems were constructed, and the second in the Middle Bronze Age when a station or outpost was built on the summit within the earlier walls. Because of its position between the two cultural regions of Palestine and the Syro/Mesopotamian sphere of influence, Jawa is particularly important for our understanding of their relations. This volume provides the stratigraphic record of the material remains from both occupations and places them in context. Analysis of the occupation sequence is simply presented, the illustrated pottery typology includes innovative approaches to comparative analysis. There is a catalogue of special finds, a short account of rock art in the area, and appendices covering the prehistory of the area, faunal remains from nearby sites, and a note on fabric analysis of some pottery from the early stage of occupation.
