Description and Table of Contents

Description

Over the past decade a set of quantitative methods known as meta-analysis has been developed to help synthesize evidence to estimate the outcomes of different actions. This text describes a new set of meta-analytic methods known collectively as the Confidence Profile Method. This method contains techniques for interpreting individual experiments, adjusting the experiments for factors that affect their comparability or applicability to specific questions, and combining evidence from multiple sources. It provides solutions for proceeding in the face of imperfect and incomplete evidence. Originally developed to synthesize experimental evidence in the field of medicine, the Confidence Profile Method also applies to fields such as agriculture, biology, environmental science, and social science. A tutorial software programme accompanies this book.
