This book provides practical help with the skills required to find scientific and technical information. The reader is guided through the basic structure of the information, and in simple terms shows how to locate it using computerized and printed sources. Advice on searching techniques is illustrated with examples from a wide range of disciplines in science, technology and medicine. Each chapter ends with a summary of the key points. In the second edition increased emphasis has been placed on the use of computerized materials: the chapter on computerized information searching has been rewritten to take account of the growth in end-user searching and the introduction of databases on CD-ROM. In addition the chapter on obtaining and organizing information has been extensively revised to incorporate developments in software packages for managing personal literature collections. The final chapter on future developments in scientific and technical information assesses the likely advances over the next decade in the methods used to retrieve scientific and technical information.
All illustrations and diagrams have been updated to ensure that the examples represent current sources and publications.
