Description and Table of Contents
Description
There is still place for innovation in cable-stayed bridge techniques, and the increase in their span length occurring during this last decade of the twentieth century is remarkable. The cable-stayed bridge is currently undergoing considerable development as a bridge type. The contributions in this volume review past experiences, evaluate recent progress in the techniques concerned, and discuss future prospects for the construction and form of cable-stayed bridges. The aim of this publication is to provide a current overview on the design and construction of cable-stayed bridges in one volume, with the main emphasis being on steel bridges. However, prestressed concrete bridges and the characteristics common to both steel and concrete bridges are also examined in many of the papers. The issues reviewed include, history, structural form, stay cables, dynamic behaviour, and design and construction. Containing contributions written by leading world authorities on bridge engineering, the volume will provide a useful reference source for all those involved in studying the design and aesthetics of bridges.
