内容説明

This book examines the resurgence of Islam in the avowedly secular state of Turkey. It examines how the political and social culture of Turkey has shaped, and been shaped by, such features of Islamic life as schools, Sufi orders, mosques and pious literature. It also explores thedifferences between Turkey and most other countries of the region. These issues are covered by scholars in 12 essays and are divided into three main topics: Islam and nationalism as political ideologies; Turkish Muslim intellectuals and the production of Islamic knowledge; and Islamic literature and literacy in contemporary Turkey.
