This second edition continues the orientation towards applied medical anthropology. The relevance to health and illness and to the delivery of health care is also included. A new chapter has been added which deals with anthropological theories of gender, the "gender cultures" of males and females in different societies, the relation of gender to both health and health care and the gradual "medicalization" of several aspects of the female life-cycle.
