The mapping of southeast Asia is a story of adventure and endeavour involving many nationalities over many years. This edition contains an updated and expanded introduction which concentrates on the work of famous European map-makers, especially the cartographers of the British and Dutch East India companies. As well as explaining the history and artistic importance of the maps and their makers, from the earliest times to the late 19th century, the book also advises on collecting and caring for old maps.
